PORTLAND, OR — Local activist and TikTok crash out Eliza Jean, 23, has taken a bold stand for economic justice by announcing that she will intentionally destroy her credit and make herself “entirely unemployable” through a series of public meltdowns until a universal living wage is guaranteed for all.
“I’m done participating in this capitalist charade,” Eliza declared in a 9-minute front-facing video, posted from her cluttered futon. “I’m not paying my bills. I’m not going to keep ‘job hopping’ for survival. If society wants obedience, it better offer me dignity — and I mean a full living wage.”
Friends report Eliza has held a string of short-lived jobs, including “popup tarot reader,” “emotional support barista,” and “remote brand alignment consultant,” all of which ended in what she calls “creative differences rooted in wage slavery.”
“She quit her last job because they wouldn’t let her vape indoors,” said roommate Cassandra M. “Then she said capitalism made her late.”
Eliza, who frequently cites “burnout” as both a diagnosis and an identity, insists that rejecting work is the most moral path forward. “If I ruin my credit and make myself toxic to HR departments across the country, then maybe someone in power will finally listen,” she said, moments before uploading another video titled “I Will Not Heal Until Wages Do.”
When asked what kind of job she would pursue if a living wage were guaranteed, Eliza replied, “Something community-based. Maybe running a consent-forward kombucha apothecary. Or an experimental sound bath for neurodivergent freelancers. It’s not about the job, it’s about the space.”
At press time, Eliza had posted a Venmo link for “paying rent under duress” and opened a GoFundMe titled “Help Me Burn Down the Credit System (Legally a Metaphor).”
